Had my picture taken for the LA Times, in a bathing suit for the Miss Culver City Contest

July 21, 1964. Shelia had a baby boyfriends

Went to have pictures taken for the newspaper in a bathing suit. It’s for the Miss Culver City contest. Went to Bonnie’s. She just go back from her vacation. Waited so long to go to the beach. Finally went with Angie to A&W, Byron wasn’t there. We left and I went home and got ready for the Saffron meeting. Marilyn lost my orange bathing suit I let her borrow, but she won’t tell me. So I’m just going to keep asking her until she tells me. Shelia called, she had her baby. It’s a boy, she’s going to keep him. Went to McGees and had spaghetti wit Pearl. Came back to Fosters, talked to Doug Thompson. Went home and again I’ll never see Byron.

I’m the blond in the center, #5.  We were only allowed to wear two piece or full piece bathing suits, not bikinis.  I wore a bright yellow suit that stuck out like a sore thumb against my tan and very blond hair.  Thought for sure I’d win the contest next to all the brunettes.  Stay tuned to see what happens.

My High School friend Carl Hijermind put together these two great pictures.   One of me in a bathing suit and one of us at Toes, standing next to m parents cool gray 1960 T-Bird with his surfboard in the back seat.  I think this captures the spirit of my 1964 Saffrons Rule Diary. Shelia was one of my best friends.   Here is a drawing done by my sister Donna’s friend Teri Thompson, of Shelia and me, in her boyfriend Steve’s Woody.  Now she has a baby boy and can’t hang out with us anymore.
