Bondage to the Media’s Ideal image, caused my dieting Neurosis (“invisible injury”)

May 7, 1964, Thursday. Dave and I must really like each other, because we fight all the time.

After school I came home and decided to really go on a diet, because Marilyn lost 13 lbs and looks so good. I’ve been doing exercises. I took my measurements and wrote down how much I want to take off 10 lbs. Dave called. We always fight. He got mad because I wanted to go to Don’s party tomorrow night. He can’t go because it’s his Mom’s Birthday, so I promised I wouldn’t go. Lauri came over and told me there was a party in Ladera Heights, so I’ll probably go with her. My play review is do tomorrow and I’m not half way ready, I worked on it from 5:00 to 12:00. I’m not going to school tomorrow.

As a child Disney promised, my Prince would come… but when I was 16, the contract had stipulations attached to the fairy tale.  I had to be thin, beautiful and preferably rich.
