From Miss Popular to Byron’s Clown was quite a fall from Grace

July 29, 1964, Wednesday. Bryon’s going steady it’s a sad sad day.

Well Mom and I shopped again for garments and shoes today. I bought 3 inch heels. I’ll be taller than Dave I bet. Came home. Felt sad because now I have my outfit, but nobody to go to the Ball with. Pearl called, the party was called off, so just stayed home. Called Byron Ferguson, to ask him if he’d go with me, then I almost died. He said he’d love to go with me, but he’s going steady. I went into a state of shock and wanted to cry. This is the darkest day of the Summer. Now there’s no hope at all. My Summer’s ruined. Then on top of that, Angie K. called to say George Harris called and asked her the same questions. Now I know Sandy B. won the Miss Culver City Contest.

After waiting for Byron to ask me out all Summer long….. he asked another girl to go steady and made a fool of me.  Now the guys must be laughing behind my back and calling me “Byron’s Clown”
