I’m sure Howard used his inheritance and the sexy 1964 XKE Jag as a carrot, to suck me in again, but I wasn’t buying it

August 6, 1964. Thursday Howard asked me out tomorrow.

Pearl, my sister Donna, her friend Linda Klein and I drove to Toes. Howard and Doug were there. They were making Brownies, so I helped them. Howard asked why I didn’t ask him to the Miss Culver City Coronation. I told him I went with Dave Kendal and didn’t ask him, because he was going steady. He said he wasn’t!! He asked if I was going to the dance tomorrow. I said it was too far away. He said I’ll pick you up and take you. I said I don’t know…but I won’t go with him. He just kept staring at me. He said he’s selling his 64 Buick for an XKE because his uncle died and left him $25,000....I just stayed home tonight.

He said, She said…..Howard was my first love.  We met when I was 15 and dated for two years.  When we broke up I started dating his friend, Dave Kendal, which didn’t work out either.

I’m sure Howard used the money and sexy new 1964 XKE Jag, as a carrot, to suck me in again, but I wasn’t buying it. It wasn’t all about the car anymore…I was growing up.
