Discovered a new hang-out… Bob’s Big Boy in the San Fernando Valley

August 14, 1964, Friday. Found a new Hang-Out…Bob’s Big Boy

Laid in the backyard all day. Tonight my sister Donna, Bonnie C., Angie K. and I went to a party down by the beach. It was no good because there were old people there except for a few of our friends. It was a beer party and with all the food you want and a crummy band. Angie talked German to all the men. I said she was my cousin from Germany. She’s quite an actress. Barbara was drinking and looked and acted like a slut. We left and drove to “Bob’s” in the Valley. It’s so bitchen. I’ve never seen so many kids at a hang-out. We didn’t meet anyone.

Van Nuys California….On Friday and Saturday nights, cars like these were driven back and forth by teen age drivers and their impressed passengers. From Bob’s Big Boy restaurant near Chandler street to the San Val Drive In Theater in the north, cars were a statement, and gasoline was somewhere around 20¢ a gallon.

The parking lot at Bob’s, was so packed we could hardly find a place to park and it was so crowded,  it was impossible to meet anyone.  So, we left and promised ourselves we’d cruise back to the Valley soon.
