From now on I’m not sticking to just one boy.

May 24, 1964, Sunday. Bitchen night, I don’t like Dave anymore.

I’m not the only one who’s tired of Dave’s damn personality. Jack said all the guy’s are starting to hate him too. Tonight I modeled at the Car and Motorcycle Show. I looked good I guess. I wore a low cut back and front black dress, with diamond necklace and black gloves. I walked all over the show with a Patricia Stevens banner across my chest. My feet were killing me. There were millions of guys there, but they were all with girls. Talked to two guys who were running Surf Films. They bought me a Coke. One guy knew a lot of guys from Toes. I had a cartoon drawing made of myself. Had a lot of pictures taken of me sitting on the hoods of different cars. From now on I’m not sticking to just one boy.

Walking around the Car and Motorcycle Show in high heals and a low cut dress….. I finally got the attention I craved….. after weeks of nothing but moodiness from my boyfriend

Broke and hungover, Surfers watched cartoons waiting for the Surf to come up

May 23, 1964, Saturday. SAD, SAD DAY. Dave and I are through.

Didn’t get any sleep all night long, because we all slept at Marilyn’s, but I slept in a bed. Got up and left for the beach. I lost the dollar Dave gave me. Picked up Pam. It was freezing out. Got to the beach and everyone was there, even Howard. Went to Jerry’s apartment. There were about ten guy’s watching cartoons. I left at 2:00, because I could tell Dave and I were done. He didn’t talk to me, and told Pam he had a bad time with me last night. I almost cried. I’ll never go out with him again. But I still like him.

Broke and hung-over the Westside Surfers gathered at Jerry’s Apartment at the beach and watched cartoons, waiting for the Surf to come up.

I still liked Dave, but couldn’t stand his moods and lack of affection.  I think he wanted me to figure it out and be the one to break up with him,

I dropped my Sanda Dee persona, got drunk and smoked a Cigar to get his attention.

May 22, 1964, Friday. Saffron Party. Terrible Night….Sad!

Dave finally called, he was in a bad mood already. I could tell he wanted me to drive and Sandy Block to drive. I didn’t want to. Jack talked me into it. Dave drove my 57 Chevy and Jack drove Sandy’s car. Pam and Jerry came with us. Dave was a Bitch all night. I smoked a Cigar and got real dizzy and drunk, until I fell all over, Dave finally paid some attention to me. I started laughing and couldn’t stop. We left and went to Jerry’s house at the beach.  I ran down to the sand and felt sick, so we sat in the car and almost fell asleep. He finally paid some attention to me. At the party a bunch of guy’s took the Punch Bowl behind the house and they all peed in it, then cracked up while people drank it. The lights were all turned off and everyone was laying on chairs, couches and the floor making out. Dave and I were the only couple on the floor dancing.

Dave wasn’t one of the guys who peed in the punch.

Giving Up Dating To Focus On My Acting Career

May 21, 1964, Thursday. Love my Drama Class

Laid in the sun again, got burned and I can’t stop itching. Jack called. He was in a terrible mood, didn’t even laugh. He hasn’t even called Sandy Block and tomorrow is the Saffron party at Marilyn’s.. Dave hasn’t called me either. I went to my first Drama Class at Patricia Stevens Modeling School. They have such great talent in that class. I did pretty good I guess. But, I was nervous at my first night. I can tell I am going to really have to work hard now. I think I’m going to give up boys and devote all my time to Drama.

I Wanna Talk About Me…Toby Keith….Pay Attention Girls.

May 20,1964, Wednesday. Laid in the sun again after school. Jack called, but didn’t have time to talk to him. Went to Patricia Stevens Modeling, came home but he didn’t call back. They probably went to the show. Pam wrote me another letter. Dave hasn’t called yet, I don’t think I can stand his moodiness. He get’s me so mad, but I still think he’s so tough! He better call before Friday. But he never has time or he just doesn’t want to be bothered with me. He get’s tired of girls. He’d rather drink. He’s no good for me either.

Waiting for the big breakup was so nerve wracking!!!

May 19, 1964, Tuesday. Dave snubbed me again.

Went to gym detention (for wearing bikini under my clothes.) We did exercises for an hour. Came home and laid in the sun. Got ready, went to my Saffron Meeting, it was at Sandy Block’s house. Talked about our Saffron party that will be at Marilyn’s house. Went to Fosters. All the guys at the beach were there, even Doug, I almost died. Dave gave me his Senior picture, It’s so TOUGH! But, he’s much cuter in person. We had a smoke-out in his car. I thought I would die from breathing too much smoke. Dave was in a terrible mood. Talked to Jerry, he told me Dave really liked me, but he’s moody. I can’t stand it much longer.

Maybe he had a lot on his mind and is under a lot of stress,  or he’s just not that into me and is trying to give me a hint that he wants to break up.

Maybe he see’s things in me he overlooked in the past. The small things that he once found quaint and charming now get on his nerves and under his skin.

No matter what he was emotionally unavailable and pushed me away.

If he wasn’t so darn cute, I’d have no problem walking away, but I didn’t want to be alone again, especially since Howard had another girlfriend to throw in my face.  I’m just waiting for the other shoe to drop and walking on eggs.

This is what a smoke-out was like.  The window’s were rolled up and everyone smoked until someone couldn’t take it any longer and opened the window for air.  That would be me. We often all rolled out of the car coughing, laughing with our eyes red and watering.  We thought it was so much fun!!!

The Competition was about…..SURFERS RULE vs SAFFRONS RULE

May 18, 1964, Monday. Dave called, acted real nice. Came home after school and laid in the sun to try and get tan. Pam wrote me a letter. I invited her to the Saffron party with her boyfriend Jerry. Dave called, he was in a pretty good mood. He wants me to invite Jim Heath to the party too. Plus, Greg and Phil think their coming. Dave said he would bring me his Senior picture tomorrow at Fosters. I told him he better come, then he blew up and said, “don’t tell me what to do.” He changes one minute to the next. Went modeling. I’m getting tired of having to go somewhere every night.

Yet. he sure liked telling me what to do!

He thinks I’m too good for him… translated means… he’s going to dump me.

May 17,1964, Sunday. Was at Hollywood Palace for the first time.

I got to bed at 1:30 and up at 6:00 this morning. Went to the Hollywood Palace to be on a marathon for Patricia Stevens Modeling School. Was mad because we were there from 8:00 until 1:30 and didn’t get on T.V. But we did see a lot of Stars. Went to the beach, saw Howard with his new girlfriend. It didn’t bother me. I really like Dave a lot. Sure hope he likes me as much, but, I can’t tell because he always gets mad at me and we always fight. Sandy Block came down to the beach, but Dave and Jack had left before she came. Pam told me Dave likes me more than he did Jeannie. But he thinks I’m too good for him.

I guess I shouldn’t have talked about myself.  It was a turnoff to guys in 1964.

Dave wasn’t happy with my Star and modeling aspirations.  He wanted a good old girl, someone who liked him for himself, even if he couldn’t afford to take me to nice places.  He was mad I wouldn’t kiss him after he made me get in the trunk of his car to sneak into the Drive-In, because he was broke.

My boyfriend’s broke so made me hide in the trunk of his car to get in the Drive-in.

May 16, 1964, Saturday. Bitchen day and night and DAVE.

Went to the audition with Jean Louis. I was so scared….. He’s a great man. I read a cold script. He said I would be a Star someday. Said I had unusual talent and he accepted me. I almost started crying. Went home and laid in the sun. Dave picked me up at seven. Told Sandy Block and I they had no money and wanted us to get in the trunk of the car. We were so mad. We got to the Drive-in and the show was so bad…”Flesh Eaters” and “Witches Curse.” My zipper broke and I was miserable all night. Didn’t kiss Dave once at the show. After the show we went to play pool, but it was full so we went up in my hills, while Sandy played games, only kissed Dave goodnight.

The Culver Theater balcony was the place to sit with your main squeeze, when you wanted to make-out during the show.

May 15, 1964, Friday. Bitchen night. Broke up with Howard two months ago.

After school I cleaned the house for Mom. Set my hair and got all ready for Dave to come over. He called at 9:30 and said he couldn’t get his car. He told me to come to the JB’s house. I decided to go because I didn’t want a fight. He was real sweet. He asked me to pick up Pam at the Culver Show. I made a fool out of myself trying to find her. Told the ticket guy, I was looking for my sister. He let me in and I went up and down the isle’s looking for her. Finally found her in the balcony. We got to Jerry’s, Dave looked so bitchen. He got his senior pictures. Said he’d give me a big one. We only stayed two hours. We “made-out” all night. My Stirup pants split and Pam’s zipper broke. Dave really acted like he liked me. Got home at 12:30.

The Culver Theater was built in 1945 and catered to young Servicemen and their families after WWll.   By the time Baby Boomers reached their teen’s in the 1960s, the theater became a favorite hangout and the balcony was the place to sit with your main squeeze, so you could make-out during the show.

Stirup pants with flat’s or boots became the rage during 1964.

I don’t know if I was getting fat or what, but it sure was embarrassing when I split my Stirup pants while on a date with Dave Kendal.  But, Pam was skinny and her zipper broke as well, making the whole thing pretty hilarious.
